Divorce Law Glossary The divorce process can be confusing and complicat | Ask a Lawyer: Dad Neglecting Hygiene During Visitation My daughter is 7 years old and goes to her dads every other weekend, 6 weeks during the summer and 1 week for spring break. She recently came back from spring break and had obviously not taken a bath in days. A few days earlier I had seen her and she had on the same clothes I had put her in 2 days before. She smelled terrible, bad breath, etc. She also had been to the doctor for an earache and been given meds for this. She left me messages and came back with her ear still hurting. I know of at least... | Ask a Lawyer: How Can I Get Child Custody Back? I left my husband 3 years ago, taking my two kids with me, after a few months we tried to work out our marriage and so I let him take my youngest daughter to stay with him over the weekends, until now I have not been able to get my daughter from him. He would always want us to visit them in their house and I can't take my youngest with me anymore. He locks the gate in their house whenever we're there. I made a couple of scene in the past because of these incidents. | Be picky to make sure power of attorney is honored May 12--The durable power of attorney is a critical component of estate planning. But it could run into roadblocks if you don't craft it correctly. Many financial-services companies and other businesses are skittish about complying with a power of attorney unless they're certain the document is genuine and the person claiming to have that authority isn't acting fraudulently. "What used to be a constant in incompetency planning has become unreliable and inconsistent in its application," said Charles Sharpe, an estate-planning attorney in Dallas. | Bill to speed up adoption process goes to Arizona governor A proposal seeking to streamline the process of adopting children out of the state's foster care system was approved by the Legislature May 7. The legislation rode the support of lawmakers who have adopted or are in the process of adopting children. The bill (S1411) passed by a vote of 25-3 in the Senate and 41-17 in the House. The next stop is the governor's desk. | Ex-foster child files lawsuit: Man was placed with sexual predator May 8--A Spokane man who says he was repeatedly sexually abused as a child in state foster care during the 1970s is suing the Washington Department of Social and Health Services, the state Department of Corrections and Spokane County for placing him with a convicted child molester. Attorneys for Michael P. Smith, who was the subject of a Spokesman-Review series in September 2006, filed the lawsuit Wednesday in Spokane County Superior Court. Though the suit makes no specific monetary claim for damages, a separate tort claim estimates damages at $31 million because of permanent, debilitating psychological and emotional problems and Smith's inability to function in social settings, which makes him unemployable. | Extra judges mustered for monumental child status hearings in YFZ Ranch custody case The next round of hearings in the massive YFZ Ranch custody case is expected to all but shut down other activities in the Tom Green County district courts, with as many as five judges presiding over 200 or more cases beginning May 19. With few exceptions, the other three district judges will join 51st District Judge Barbara Walther at center stage of the immense case, born from a raid last month on the Schleicher County compound of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. |
