I have practiced law in Honolulu for the past 29 years.  I graduated from Punahou School, attended Colgate University, obtained my BA from the University of Southern California, and obtained my law degree from the University of Hawaii.

You may notice that I call himself a Counselor at Law.  I do this for two reasons:  (1) I believe that “Attorney at Law” is redundant, and (2) I wish to emphasize my role to provide counsel and educate people to learn from and not repeat the same mistakes.

I maintain a general practice. However, my specialization is in debtor rights and creditor remedies.  For debtors, this may include:  offers in compromise of tax claims and liens; negotiating debt settlements or workouts with creditors and lenders; bankruptcy (Chapters 7, 13 and 11); collection defense, foreclosure defense; and strategic business and estate planning.  For creditors, this may include:  collection of debt; foreclosure of mortgage or other lien; representation in bankruptcy (eg… landlord of debtor); negotiating settlements or workouts with debtors; and fraudulent conveyance actions.

I come from a family established in retail business and real estate.  Therefore, I advise individuals and companies on business organization, transactions and dispute resolution, including among partners, or buyers and sellers.  In real estate, I provide counsel on ownership, contracts, transactions (buy/sell, leases) and dispute resolution, including among partners, buyers and sellers, and against realtors.  I have been retained to remove a resident manager as well as to remove a property management company.  I have been a Board member and compliance chair for my condo association for the past 12 years.

My hourly rate is $300, plus tax and costs.  Adjustment can be made for fledgling businesses and limited incomes.  Certain cases (like in collections) may be accepted on a percentage fee basis, whereby you pay little or no fees (just the costs), unless there is recovery.  Other cases may be accepted on a fixed fee basis (like for standard bankruptcy services).

For instance, for Chapter 7 cases, our Basic Service Package (fees, tax and costs) starts at $2,500 and for Chapter 13 cases, our Basic Service Package starts at $3,500.
